Phishing Scams
Online and Telephone Phishing Scams targeting seniors and others
Seniors, like everyone else, enjoy good deals, making them prime targets for phishing scams involving free gifts, low-cost medications, and other too-good-to-be-true offers. Criminals use these enticing offers as bait to exploit their victims. Phishing scams trick victims into revealing personal information, bank details, or login credentials using emotional tactics like fear or curiosity. These scams can occur via email, phone (vishing), or SMS (smishing). The FBI’s 2018 report highlights tech support fraud as a growing crime, with $39 million in losses, mostly affecting people over age 60.
