Overview
Hey there! I'm Advik Vermani, 12th grader at West Windsor Plainsboro High School South and huge cybersecurity enthusiast. I founded CyberSafe to digitally empower senior citizens, helping them to stay safe online by providing simple, practical cybersecurity education and resources. Inspired by my own experiences of witnessing how seniors in my family struggled with online scams and digital threats, I realized the urgent need to equip this vulnerable group with the knowledge to identify and defend against cyberthreats, phishing, and financial fraud. My goal is to instill confidence in netizens as they navigate the internet securely, while also fostering a support network that they can rely on in times of crisis. At CyberSafe, we believe that everyone, regardless of age, deserves to explore the digital world without fear.
The Problem
Seniors are increasingly targeted by cybercriminals due to their perceived vulnerability and often limited digital literacy. Many lack the knowledge to recognize and defend against common threats like phishing scams and identity theft, leading to financial loss and emotional distress. According to the NCOA, Americans over age 60 reported a total of $3.4 billion in financial fraud losses in 2023, with seniors also less likely to report losing money to fraud compared to younger populations.
The Solution
CyberSafe offers tailored, senior-friendly educational tools—such as interactive tutorials, infographics, and quizzes—to help seniors learn about the most common cyber threats and how to avoid them. Our platform provides comprehensive resources and support to ensure everyone can navigate the digital world safely and confidently.
